A former Director General of the Department of State Services, DSS, Lawal Daura, wants to be the Governor of Katsina State in 2027.
Daura announced his plan to occupy the number one seat in Katsina in an interview with DCL Hausa on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
During the interview, Daura particularly criticised the the current administration’s handling of security issues and said it is the key reason he decided to run for the office of the Governor.
He disclosed that he was already through with consultations on his political aspirations and, very soon, will reveal the political party under which he plans to run.
Daura: “I have been making consultations on the platform to use to contest, and the consultations have been concluded. Very soon, I will make the platform known.
“Why do people serve for one or two terms? If they get it right, fine. But if the reverse is the case, then there is no point in seeking re-election. It is obvious the current governor is not capable.
“It is like putting a load on somebody and adjusting it. If he complains that the load is too heavy, you have to take it down to avoid destroying fragile items.
“For the current administration, we can say thank you for your efforts, but you should take a break because you can’t continue.
“I never saw myself coming out to contest. I admire politics, but I only participated from the background.”
Aged 72, Daura was appointed the Director General of the DSS on July 2, 2015, by the late President Muhammadu Buhari. He was, however, sacked from.office by Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo on August 7, 2018 for embarrassing the Federal Government. He had, in the absence of President Buhari, and without any clearance from Vice President Osinbajo, ordered the “invasion” of the National Assembly by Operatives of the DSS over a couple of still unstated sundry issues. Buhari resisted all pressures to reinstate him even though was a Buhari loyalist.
Speculation is strong that he would run under the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
The incumbent Governor, Dr. Dikko Radda is of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and is a relation of late President Buhari.
