First Nigeria’s Female Military General, Aderonke Kale, Dies

Nigeria has lost its first female Army Major General.

Aderonke Kale, was the first Nigerian Female Military General.

She was of the Medical Corp, and was an accomplished Medical Doctor and specialized in psychiatry. She was, also, the first female Major General in West Africa.

Kale was promoted to the rank of a Major General in 1994, and was the Director, Medical Corp of the Nigeria Army, from where she became the Chief Medical Director in 1996. She retired from the Army in 1997.

Her son, Yemi Kale, was Nigeria’s Statistician General.

Major General Aderonke Kale died on Wednesday, November 8, aged 84 years.
