For over one year, the Boko Haram Terrorists tried to hit  Maiduguri metropolis. For long, they had tried to attack the University of Maiduguri, a citadel of learning which runs contrary to their beliefs.

The sect does not believe in Western education. Members say it is an abomination to acquire Western education.

As much as they tried to hit the metropolis, they were repelled by gallant Nigerian soldiers. Not this day.

Reports from Maiduguri say the terrorists, Tuesday, evening, February 22,  attacked the metropolis with bombs, other explosives and guns.

Nobody knows the number of fatalities for now, but residents who are running helter-skelter in confusion, confirm there are fatalities.

The explosions and exchange of gunfire between them and Security operatives, were said to be very heavy.

Their focus was, perhaps, the University, as they were said to have launched the attack on it from its North east, behind a Military trench.

Pandemonium is the order, residents around settlements of Mairi, Kaleri and Constein, say.

The attack came 24 hours after the new Chief of Army Staff, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru gave the troops 48 hours to retake Marte Local Government, Borno State, where the insurgents sacked   a military base, took over the LGA, and hoisted their flags. It, also, came on the day the Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Zulum, boasted that the Military would recover Marte from the insurgents soon.
