Days after the conduct of the Governorship election in Ondo state, first runner up, and candidate of People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) Eyitayo Jegede, has finally reacted to his loss.
In a press statement titled “Appreciation message” and personally signed by him, Jegede stated:
“I wish to extend my sincere appreciation to all the good people of Ondo State who voted at the governorship election held on 10th October 2020.
“I thank those who conscientiously voted for PDP and, also, thank those who did not vote for us because you still added value to the democratic process by virtue of your participation.
“My appreciation goes to the electorate throughout the 18 LGA’s for your collective sacrifice and belief in our democracy.
“I encourage you all to continue to keep the peace and be law-abiding as we wait.
Thank you and God bless.
Publicity secretary of PDP, Mr Peretei had earlier issued a statement that the party was still studying the outcome of the election.
Neither the party nor Jegede has congratulated the winner, incumbent Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, and candidate of the APC. But Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state, in an AIT interview session on Friday, said that the PDP lost to sabotage and disunity within the party. Akeredolu won in 15 out of the State’s 18 Local Government Areas.
