A Youth Corps member has been confirmed dead in a tragic road accident while traveling to the National Youth Corps Service, NYSC, orientation camp in Ebonyi State.
The Ebonyi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road safety Corps, FRSC, Henry Igwe, who confirmed the incident on Thursday January 23, 2025, also, informed that several others were injured in the road mishap.
However ,the identities of both the dead youth corper and the injured were not made known.
According to Igwe, the accident which involved two vehicles- a 14-seater commuter bus ,and tipper lory ,occurred on Wednesday January 22, at about 2 pm ,along Amasiri/Okigwe Road in Amenu community, Okposi, Ohaozara Local Council of the State.
“From our preliminary findings, it might have been caused by speeding on the part of the commercial bus
“The identities and details of the number of those injured are yet to be ascertained because the victims were actually rescued by bystanders in the area”, the FRSC Sector Commander noted .
He, however, informed that those who sustained varying degrees of injuries are in stable condition at the David Umahi Federal Hospital Uburu.
The deceased Youth Corps member, was said to be heading for the State’s NYSC orientation camp when the accident occurred.
