The Anambra State Police Command is yet to confirm it, but reliable sources confirm that Gunmen have killed an Army Major.
Identified as Major Churchill Orji, a native of Agulu; Anambra State, he was reportedly killed on Saturday, August 20, during an operation at the Azia axis of Ihiala.
That area, has for months, been a hotbed for Gunmen.
Since the killing of the Army officer, fear has gripped the people around the area. They fear that the Army could embark on a reprisal mission.
And, since then, those who knew him have been paying tributes to him.
A schoolmate of his in a tribute on Sunday, was quoted as saying: “Our brother, Major Churchill Orji, you paid the price defending out dear State from bandits and unknown gunmen yesterday (Saturday), at Azia/Ukpor. Your efforts shall never be in vain. Agulu mourns.”
Another person who addressed the late Major as his brother wrote: “Rest in peace my brother from Nneogidi Village, Agulu, Major Churchill Orji, killed yesterday (Saturday) at Azia/Ukpor defending the South-east from the marauders.”
Neither the Army nor the Police has issued any statement on the operation that cost Major Orji his life.
