The Ondo Command of the Nigeria Police Force has denied arresting the killers of Funke Olakunrin, daughter of the leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere.
Mrs Olakunrin, a Lawyer, was murdered by alleged bandits along the Ore-Sagamu Expressway in July 2019.
The Police have been on a manhunt for her killers without success.
But on Monday, the National Secretary of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, issued a statement to the effect that her alleged killers have been arrested by the men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Ondo State Police Command. He disclosed that they were four in number, out of which three are of Northern extraction.
His statement, in which he praised the Police to high heavens, brought joy to the heart.
But speaking to newsmen on Tuesday, the Ondo Police Command Spokesperson, Tee-Leo Ikoro, denied the arrest.
He said, “I have seen the report too and I don’t know where they saw it but it is not from us.
“I spoke with the officer in charge of Special Anti-Robbery Squad in the state, he told me he’s not aware of anything like that.
“So, the entire command is not aware of this and no arrest has been made.”
Both angry and confused, Nigerians are asking: Who is telling the truth?
They are also asking Odumakin to disclose the source of the statement he released.
