For the records, Malami is late President Muhammadu Buhari’s son-in-law
Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has assured the public of his readiness to honour the summons from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC)
Malami, who acknowledged receiving an official invitation from the antu graft agency in his personal Facebook page on Friday, described himself as a law-abiding citizen committed to the principles of transparency and accountability in governance.
“This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC. As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation,” he stated.
The former minister explained that he chose to publicly announce the invitation in line with his advocacy for openness in public service.
“I understand the spirit of accountability and transparency in public service — principles that I both advocate and champion,” he added, promising to keep Nigerians updated as the situation develops.
Malami served as Attorney-General and Minister of Justice between 2015 and 2023 under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
His eight-year tenure was marked by several high-profile legal battles, asset recovery efforts, anti-corruption reforms, and controversies surrounding government decisions.
Toward the end of his time in office, he faced increased scrutiny over allegations relating to asset declarations, contract approvals, and the handling of recovered funds — claims he repeatedly denied.
As of the time of this report, the EFCC has not disclosed the specific details or scope of its invitation to the former attorney-general.
For the records, Malami, a fiercely Buhari loyalist, is also the late President’s son-in-law.
