After much dilly-dallying, the Enugu State House of Assembly finally passed the Prohibition of Open Grazing and Regulation of Cattle Ranching Bill into law, two days after the House held a public hearing on it.
Miyetti Allah, the Umbrella body of Cattle breeders in Enugu bad pleaded with the House of Assembly to delay the bill so that they will make imputes as to how it will affect them.
Chairman of the Joint Committee, Hon. Mrs. Amaka Ugwueze, Emma Ugwuerua, and Okwu Chinedu, who Co-chaired the Committee, had submitted the report of the public hearing to the House.
The Bill was sponsored by the Leader of the House, Hon. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu.
It is expected to forestall fallout from farmers/herders clashes as well as alleged killings and raping of women by Herdsmen.
Itis yet to be signed into law by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
This is coming on the heels of many Southern Governors not meeting the deadline of August 31st for the signing of the open grazing law.
Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, signed a couple of days ago.
