EndBadGovernance Protest: Kano, Yobe Review 24-hour Curfew

The Kano State Government has announced a slight adjustment in the curfew imposed on the State.

The Source reports that the  State Governor, Abba Yusuf had, in the wake of the arson, looting and violence that trailed the day one of the EndBadGovernance Nationwide protest in the commercial city, imposed a 24-hour curfew to contain the situation.

The Nationwide protest which kick-started on August 1 across the country was marred by wanton destruction, vandalization, arson and deaths in Kano, making it the most negatively affected in the whole country.

Many public and private institutions and businesses were massively looted and vandalized by hoodlums who hijacked the protest.

But in a statement on Sunday August 4, the State Commissioner for Information, Baba Haliru Dantiye said the curfew will now run from 2.00pm to 8.00am

The Commissioner cited the need to return normalcy to the embattled City as reason.

Similarly, Yobe State, another victim of the hijacking of the protest, has relaxed its 24 hour curfew.

The State, like Kano, witnessed mindless destruction, looting, arson and deaths during the day one of the protest.

The development forced the authorities to slam 24-hour curfew in parts of the State,.

Governor Mala Buni has, however, announced a five hour relaxation of the curfew.  Residents are now allowed to conduct their activities from 12 noon to 5 pm .

He lauded security agencies for their commitment and dedication in protecting lives and properties of law abiding residents.

Areas mostly affected by the curfew are the commercial town of Potiskum, Gashua and Nguru.

The review of the curfew in the two States comes on the heels of the nationwide broadcast by President Bola Tinubu on the ongoing EndBadGovernance Protest.

The President in his address decried the deaths and violence that were recorded in Kano,Borno and Yobe state .

He appealed for restraint and cessation of hostilities by the protesters to allow for dialogue in the interest of the country.
