Still in search of peace and return of normal academic activities, the Governing Council of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, has unbounded the four unions it proscribed last week.

The Council, rising from its meeting of Friday, 23rd April, 2021 announced the closure of the University following the heightening of protests and tension by the four unions which threatened the peace and orderliness on campus.

The four unions affected by the order are Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU), Non Academic Staff Union, (NASU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, (SSANU) and NAAT.

A statement by the spokesman of the University, Mr Bode Olofinmuagun, said since the decision was taken, the Governing Council has received series of pleas and intervention from well meaning individuals, corporate bodies as well as the Alumni Association of the university.

“As part of efforts to create an enabling environment for further dialogue on all the issues towards the restoration of peace on campus and continuation of academic activities, Council has, therefore, directed  that the ban placed on the activities of the four (4) staff unions (ASUU, SSANU, NAAT and NASU) on campus be lifted immediately.

“Arising from the above, normal academic activities, hitherto suspended, are to also resume without further delay.

“Accordingly, students are to resume on campus to continue with their normal academic activities.”

The Joint Action Committee, (JAC) had, earlier, warned the University workers to stay off campus, saying the order for them to return to work, less than 24 hours after the council shut down the University, was a trap.
