Ekiti: Gunmen Abduct Top Federal Government Official

A top official of the Federal Government is among those that were whisked away by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers in Ekiti state at the weekend.

The official, whose driver was shot, and one other person, was among travelers along Isinbode- Omuo highway that were unlucky to have ran into the gunmen.

The gunmen, who were said to be not less than 10, first started their operation at a wood industry in Isinbode- where they kidnapped one person, who later escaped from them.

The vehicle in which the official, who is a Deputy Director in a Federal Ministry, ran into them during which the driver was shot and the official taken away.

Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Sunday Abutu, while giving an insight into the incident, said it happened on Friday evening saying the Police were on the trail of the criminals.

He noted that the driver who was shot has been rescued to a hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

Only about a month ago, a Commissioner in the state, Mr Folorunso and a lady he was traveling with, were kidnapped along Isan – Iludun road.

The driver of the vehicle they were traveling in, who was the Leader of the Legislative arm of Ilejemeje local government, was shot dead while trying to escape.

As part of measures to check activities of hoodlums in the state, the regional security outfit,  Amotekun, has commenced recruitment of personnel.
