Ekiti state government has ordered students and teachers to vacate two secondary schools in Ado Ekiti following report of an imminent collapse of structures.

The schools named after two prominent indigenes of the state, Ayo Fasanmi Model College and Deji Fasuan Model College were constructed during the second term regime of former Governor Kayode Fayemi.

Apart from dilapidated structure, it was learnt that the roof top of the building leaks profusely, making it difficult for teachers to teach when rain falls.

This has also led to massive flooding of the classrooms, a situation which piqued during the outgoing rain season forcing management of the two schools to make representation to the ministry of education for necessary repairs.

Investigation revealed that parents are now apprehensive of government decision to close down the schools for close to a month without effort to correct structural defects in the affected buildings.

Public schools in the state had resumed for the first term academic session in September and students in the two affected colleges were about settling down for academic duties when the fault was detected.

At the state ministry of education, officials that reacted confirmed the incident and explained that contractors that handled the buildings have been directed to return to site and effect necessary correction.

The officials stated that the students and teachers were sent home pending when repairs would be effected to prevent loss of life, assuring that lost period will be accommodated.
