The Economic And Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has denied having made good their threat to arrest and prosecute Rochas Okorocha, the immediate past governor of Imo State. Reports has said that the anti graft agency has arrested the former governor. Also arrested were his wife, Nkechi, Gerald Okorocha and Okey Okorocha.
According to sources within the organisation, there is no truth in the story.
Rochas has been under fire from his own party when his bid to install his son in law as his replacement in what opposition regard as plans to cover his track failed. Even his bid for the Senate hit the rocks when the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, refused to give him Certificate of Return based on the confession of the Resident electoral commissioner that he declared Okorocha winner under duress. Since then, Okorocha has been struggling to get his Certificate of Return.
The issue became complicated when the EFCC announced that they may arrest Okorocha when he leaves office.
Several meetings with the Presidency on the issue allegedly never yielded any fruit.
Some online medium has been flashing the story, insiting he has been arrested. Okorocha is said to be an insider within the ruling party. He is rumored to have so many privileged information that may be damaging to the presidency. Last year, there were reports that he threatened to spill the beans, saying that if he opens his mouth, “Aso Rock will burn”.
Although this was not confirmed-he never came out to deny it either-this goes a long way to explain the rumors around his so called unverified travails with security and financial Agencies.
When Okorocha took over power in Imo state, there were high expectations. But somewhere along the line, he squandered the goodwill of the people and lost the confidence of the people.
