The Enugu State Gubernatorial Candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the 2023 general elections, Hon Chijioke Edoga, on Monday, March 31, 2025, signed on for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The Source reports that Edoga had in the run-up to the 2023 Governorship contest, resigned from the PDP after being dumped out of the party’s Primaries where incumbent Governor Peter Mba emerged victorious.
He had, subsequently, joined forces with the LP which gave his ambition an impetus by offering him its ticket.
He was nonetheless defeated by Governor Mba at the polls proper.
Earlier in the year, indications had emerged of his possible reunion with his old political family, following a visit to his residence by a high-powered PDP delegation.
The delegation which was led by the Enugu state chairman of the Party Chief Martin Chukwunweike, had urged Hon Edoga to strongly consider returning to the PDP.
In response, Edoga had promised to consult his followers and major stakeholders both in Isi Uzo Local Council and the State generally before taking a final decision.
However, he gave almost a 100 per cent assurance that he will give a favourable consideration to their request.
The former LP Governorship candidate, finally, declared his reunion with the Party at its State Secretariat on Monday.
He described his return as that of home coming after a spell outside.
He paid glowing tribute to the State Chairman of the PDP, and all those who assisted in making his return a reality.
Hon Edoga noted that the remarkable strides of Governor Mba, since mounting the saddle, all the more facilitated his decision to return to the PDP.
According to him, his vision for the State is completely in alignment with that of the state Governor whom he lauded for breaking new grounds and repositioning Enugu state within less than two years in office.
He pledged to collaborate with party faithful and other stakeholders to move both PDP and Enugu State to a new height.
On hand to receive him were the State Chairman, elders and other stakeholders, including the leadership of the party in his Isi-Uzo Local Government.
