Hon. Henry Okojie, House of Representatives Member representing Esan North East/Esan South East Federal Constituency, who is also the Edo Central Coordinator for the All Progressives Congress, APC Governorship Campaign, narrowly escaped assassination Friday morning.
Okojie, married to popular Nollywood Actress, Mercy Johnson-Okojie, according to his Media aide, Michael Ihaza, was in his home when tye assassins came calling.
Ihaza identified the four hoodlums as armed political thugs. He said they posed as police officers when they arrived Okojie’s residence located at Uromi, the administrative headquarters of Esan North East Local Government.
According to a statement he issued, the assailants arrived in a Lexus GX 470 with a Rivers State registration number, and claimed they had an appointment with the Lawmaker.
However, their evil plans attempt were thwarted by Okojie’s security personnel during a chaotic confrontation.
Two of the attackers managed to flee the scene, while their driver and another accomplice were apprehended. They are currently being interrogated by the Police Area Command in Uromi.
The statement reads in part: “The attack carried out by armed thugs with a Lexus GX 470 carrying a Rivers State vehicle registration number – PHC 253 FF, was unsuccessfully owing to the intervention of security personnel attached to the Lawmaker.
“The armed thugs who disguised as police officers along with two others, invaded the residence of Hon. Okojie, claimed to be on appointment, and proceeded to the seating room (sic).
“Following the intervention of the security personnel attached to the lawmaker, two of the armed thugs fled leaving behind the driver and another who are currently being interrogated by officers from the Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Uromi”, the statement reads.
Though, the Edo State Police Command are yet to issue a statement on this development, possibly due to the electioneering process ongoing at the moment in the State so as not overheat the polity.
