President Tinubu has promised to ensure the return of Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso to the Economic Community of West Africa, ECOWAS.
the president made the remark in a meeting with with the ECOWAS Chiefs of Defence Staff in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
The Nigerian leader is the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
Recall that the three West African nations had left the bloc after the military took over the reins of government.
The have since refused to rejoin ECOWAS despite efforts by leaders of thought from the region.
But president Tinubu said on Friday that efforts are ongoing to “persuade them to return” promising to give “them reasons to come back to us”.
Tinubu said: ”It is in our hearts to ensure that security is enhanced and that constitutional government is defended and promoted in our region.
”It has been a challenging tenure for me since three members indicated their exit. We will work hard to persuade them to return, whichever way.
”No man is smarter than the group of heads here. We will do everything to offer a hand of friendship to them and give them reasons to come back to us.”
