President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appealed to state governors in the country to work with him to move the country forward.
Tinubu made the appeal on Thursday while breaking the Ramadan fast with the governors in Aso Villa, Abuja, the nation’s capital.
The president stated that the governors must work with him in other to save the country from the current economic problems, saying that the “headwind” will soon be over.
He called for the unity of state governments with the federal government, adding that the progress of the country is paramount.
“Politics is over,” President Tinubu told the governors amidst worries among Nigerians that some governors have been laid back in governance, and have not been supporting the president’s efforts to lift the country out of the current economic doldrums.
Tinubu said: “Since we recognised the need to build our nation together, the time for politics is over. It is now time for governance.
“We are of the same family and parents living in the same house but sleeping in different rooms. We must cooperate and spread love among each other,” the president stressed.
The magazine reports that President Tinubu recently called on state governors to pay the N30, 000 wage award to civil servants in their states, to cushion the effects of economic hardship on the citizens.
The president said this was necessary pending the conclusion of of the ongoing negotiations with the Organised Labour in the country on the new minimum wage.
“We need to relieve our people of hunger. Let all the sub-nationals start paying wage awards, pending when the minimum wage is increased. I am not giving an order; I am only appealing. NEC should adopt this,” Tinubu said in Nigeria state during the week while flagging of a federal government agric project.
