The Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, on Monday, February 3,2025 passionately appealed to the people to strongly resist the temptation of embarking on a reprisal attack or a resort to self help in handling Sunday’s attack by suspected herdsmen .
He condemned the attack, and described it as worrisome and a source of serious concern to the authorities .
The Source reports that gun men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen on Sunday attacked and killed several local farmers in Amegu Nkalagu community in Ishielu Local Government of the State.
Many houses and properties were also reportedly razed and destroyed by the rampaging herdsmen.
Confirming the incident, the State Police Command put the death toll at ten persons with several homes burnt down.
But reacting to the incident, the State Governor called on the affected people of the area to remain calm and avoid any acts capable of worsening the situation .
He, however, assured them that all efforts are being made by the Government to address the challenge.
Governor Nwifuru expressed serious concern over the recurrent nature of the attacks on the citizens of the State whom he described as hospitable .
In a statement issued by his Media Aide, Monday Uzor, the Governor warned strangers not to capitalize on the accommodating nature of the citizens to visit terror on them.
He directed security agencies to enhance their presence in the affected area to ensure a complete control of the situation.
The Governor commiserated with the families, relations and friends of the victims of the gruesome attack.
” I am saddened to learn about the attack on the people of Nkalaha of Ishielu Local Government Area which led to the death of innocent citizens of the State.
“The attack is a flagrant disregard for the sanctity of human life .
“The attack which is not the first in the area is worrisome and a source of concern to the Government and people of the State .
“However, as a Government that is determined to secure our people by protecting lives and property, we shall take decisive steps to unravel the circumstances behind the attack.
My thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult moments. But be assured that you will not be left alone and the perpetrators will be brought to book.” Nwifuru stated
