The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has issued a nationwide advisory on the need to stay calm and vigilant in the wake of outbreak of Ebola virus disease in neighbouring country of Democratic Republic of Congo, (DRC).
The agency, assured that there is no reported case of the disease in Nigeria, but that its call on the citizens is to guard against possible spread.
NCDC, in a statement stated that “Due to the recent reports of Ebola virus disease outbreak reported in Kassai province, Democratic Republic of Congo, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has issued a nationwide advisory on the need to stay calm and vigilant.
“Although there is currently no case of Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria, NCDC is actively monitoring the situation and has put stronger measures in place to protect Nigerians.”
It announced some measures to ensure safety which include regular washing of hands with soap or hand sanitizer as well as avoiding contact with anyone showing fever, vomiting, or unexplained bleeding.
“Do not touch body fluids of sick persons, avoid raw or undercooked bushmeat, if you traveled to or from affected countries, watch your health closely and seek help if symptoms appear.”
