Driver, Passenger Shot Dead As Kidnappers Abduct Corps Member, Four Others In Ondo

One of the hot spots for kidnappers in Ondo state witnessed a tragedy Friday night.  Two travellers, driver and a passenger were shot dead, while trying to trick their abductors to escape.

Five other passengers, including a Corps member, were abducted and whisked away while two others escaped with various degrees of gunshot wounds.

The incident happened along the Benin/Owo Expressway in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Reports said that the suspected kidnappers, numbering about 15 and armed with AK-47 rifles, ambushed commuters at about 11 pm on Friday at Omi Alafa Village in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area of the State and unleashed terror on travelers while residents at nearby villages scampered  for safety.

Some members of the community who witnessed the incident reported to the Police how commuters were ambushed by the suspected kidnappers who fired sporadically at the Sienna bus.

A source in the community hinted that the vehicle was coming from Anambra State with passengers heading to Owo and Akure.

They also mentioned that the corpses of the driver and one of the passengers occupying the front seat, a lady, have been deposited at the morgue of Adelabu Hospital in Ifon.

Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Fumilayo Odunlami- Omisanya, said the Command could not ascertain the exact number of victims.

She added that “our men are fully on the ground, combing the forest to ensure that the kidnapped victims are rescued.”
