A drama ensued at a Polling Station in Ihiala, Anambra State, in the heat of the Governorship Election, when a concerned citizen stormed the venue and took officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission to ask.
The yet to be identified citizen, obviously, on a tip off, stormed Polling Unit 013, Amamu, Ward A, Ihiala, and asked the INEC officials to “stop”.
Everybody looked on, including the Voters who were on queue under the sun.
Then, he asked the official in charge of the Polling Unit: “Where are the result sheets?” The Lady who identified herself as the AGO said there were no result sheets. And he asked where the sheets were? She said she was given none. And the man hit the roof and confronted her: So, you are here and people are voting while tye results are being written somewhere else.
The helpless lady said that she asked for the result sheets when she noticed she was given none, and was told by the SPO that he would bring them but had not.
The man then turned to the voters who who had become restless and addressed them. “You are wasting time here. You are standing under the sun, voting, while they are in somebody’s house writing the results.” He also disclosed that the same thing – no result sheets – played out the Juniorate Ihiala Polling Station.
Hereunder is what transpired at the Polling Station.
Man on arrival: “Who is in charge here? Wait, I want to climb up.” HE climbed up.
Man: “Stop everything here now. Stop! Stop!!
Do you have your result?
INEC Official (a lady): No.
Man: Why? So, they are writing the results somewhere, and you are here voting? That is not proper. Why are the result sheets not here? What is the polling unit here?
INEC Official: “013”
Man: “People are voting and the result sheets are somewhere else and they are computing the result sheets.
“This is Ihiala, Amamu, Ward A. In Juniorate, the same thing is happening.”
Pointing at the Lady, he said: “She is in charge. She is the AGO. This criminality must stop. Yes, No result sheets and people are voting. The result sheets are somewhere and people are standing here under the sun, voting.”
Addressing the Voters, he said:
“This exercise now is nonsense. They are in somebody’s house writing result.”
INEC Official “This is not my first time of doing this job. Usually everything is packed for us in the bag. When I didn’t see the result sheets, I asked the SPO, he said that we should go, that he will bring it. He has not brought it till now.”
When she was asked the name of the SPO, she said she didn’t know.
There were also allegations of vote buying. There are 16 candidates, including the incumbent, Governor Chukwuma Soludo, vying for votes from 2.8 million voters.
