Ogboru has been at loggerheads with the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege over who owns the structure of the APC in the State.

The trio of Ogboru, Omo Agege and Festus Keyamo are all jostling to be the APC Candidate for the 2023 Governorship Election in the State.Omo Agege and Keyamo have an edge over Ogboru because of their position in the affairs of the ruling Party at the center. This, political observers said may have prompted the alleged the defection of Ogboru, which he has debunked.

Ogboru and Keyamo have lost the newly constituted  APC structure to Omo Agege who is the leader of the party in the South-South.
