Nigeria’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio says he has decided to withdraw all the cases he filed against some individuals who have offended him by allegedly slandering his name.
This, he said, is necessary in the spirit of the season, saying he was moved to do so following a sermon he listened to
during the New Year Homily, at the Sacred Heart Parish in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state capital.
It’s widely believed by those closely watching the former Akwa Ibom state governor, that the cases he withdraw could include the Defamatory suit he filed this year against Senator Natasha Akpoti- Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central in the National Assembly.
Akpabio, the magazine recalls, dragged Akpoti- Uduaghan to court after she accused him of soliciting sex from her. Akpabio denied the allegation.
The controversy started following a clash in the Senate chamber over sitting arrangement early this year, with the lawmaker accusing Akpabio of being vindictive because she refused his sexual passes.
Akpoti- Uduaghan was later suspended by the Senate over the issue, for six months, and had just been called back to the Red Chamber last September.
Akpabio said he has now decided to forget all in the spirit of the season, saying his lawyers have been instructed to withdraw all the cases he filed in court against those who offended him, though he did not specifically mentioned the South involving the Kogi Senator.
“After listening to the Homily which dwelt on Letting Go of the painful past for peace to reign, I have decided to forgive all of them. I listened to the priest and suddenly realised he was talking to me. I there and then, directed my solicitors to withdraw all lawsuits against them. I had almost nine cases in court against some individuals who defamed me, who lied against me and who slandered my name,” Akpabio said in a message he shared on his Facebook page.
The message was titled: “Touched By The New Year Homily, I Have Forgiven All.”
