All the processes that culminated in the reinstatement of Emir Muhammad Sanusi as the 16th Emir of Kano have been declared illegal, null and void.
The Kano State Government-dethroned 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, has been restored to the Throne.
These were the grains of a verdict delivered on Thursday, June 20, 2024, by a Federal High Court sitting in Kano.
The Source reports that the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf ,had, on Thursday, May 23, reinstalled Emir Sanusi ,after dethroning Bayero alongside Emirs of Gaya,Karaye ,Rano and Bichi.
In doing so, Governor Yusuf brushed aside a Court order restraining him from signing into law the 2024 Emirates law as hurriedly passed by the State Lawmakers earlier in the day, and upon which he relied to depose Emir Bayero and the four others.
The restraining order was sequel to a motion ex parte filed by the duo of Alhaji Aminu Baba Danagundi , one of the Emirate king makers ( Sarki Dawakin Maituta) and Emir Bayero.
They had also filed a motion on notice challenging the legality of the purported repeal of the 2019 Kano Emirates by the State House of Assembly
They had argued that in effecting the amendment, the Kano State Lawmakers did not follow due process.. They, therefore, prayed the Court to set aside the amendment to the 2019 Emirates laws .
Emir Bayero also asked the Court to set aside his purported deposition, having arisen from an illegal process .
The 2019 Emirates Laws had balkanized the hitheto Kano Emirate behemoth into five.
Justice Mohammed Liman in his ruling dismissed all the processes leading to the repeal of the 2019 Emirate laws upon which the Governor had relied upon to dethrone Emir Bayero and four others.
The Judge, similarly, ordered all parties to maintain the status quo before Thursday May 23 2024 (the day Emir Bayero and others were dethroned).
