Court Disbands Ebubeagu Security Outfit In South East

A Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki, has disbanded Ebubeagu in Ebonyi State, Chapter.

The outfit, created by South- east governors for the region to tackle insecurity has been mired in controversy since inception.

Residents view the outfit as a terror for the indigenous communities it was meant to protect. It is mostly active in Ebonyi and Imo states.

There were reports of human rights abuse, extra-judicial killings and banditry allegedly associated with the group.

The Court cited cases of extortions, illegal arrests and use of firearms against the citizenry.
