Coronavirus: All Nigerian Cases Tested Negative, Says NCDC

Reprieve may have come to Nigeria since the dreaded Corona virus may have no foothold in Nigeria as all Nigerians Quarantined tested negative, says Nigerian Center For Disease Control, NCDC.

Nigerians has been confirmed even by China to have an explainable immunity over the disease, but recently a Nigerian was said to have tested positive to the disease in Italy. An unnamed Italian has brought the Disease to Nigeria through Turkish Airways. He was said to have visited Ogun State as a staff of Lafarge before returning to Lagos. He was later diagnosed of the Disease.

Though efforts are being made to quarantine all he came in contact with, it appears he is not having any serious impairment. None of those quarantines has tested positive.

In a conference on “The emerging and re-emerging Viral Infections: The story of Lassa fever and COVID-19,” organized by the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto the Director, Emergency Preparedness and Response, NCDC, Dr John Oladejo pronounced Nigeria free of the disease.

“This means Nigeria is free of Coronavirus,” he said.

According to him, Nigeria can now boast of necessary equipment to handle the issue.

“We now have testing capacity in three laboratories: National Reference Laboratory, Abuja; LUTH in Lagos; and Irrua in Edo state,” he said.
Coronavirus has been in the news since it broke in Wuhan, China, and has infested over 80,000 people with about three thousand dead majorly in China. it has spread to all continents apart from Antarctica.
Unfortunately, so much speculations and fake news have been spread in Nigeria as to its spread and cure but health officers say it is best prevented through hand washing and use of alcohol based sanitizers. “It cannot survive in hot environment for long and is spread through droplets, hence the recommendation of masks to prevent droplets from reaching other people.”
