As the primary election to pick candidates for State Assembly, House of Representatives and Senate by the All Progressive Congress, (APC) approaches, a Concerned Youths Group of Iwoland (CYI), has warned that consensus primary will divide Osun State APC and truncate the re-election bid of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.

In a statement, signed by the Chairman of the group, Semiu Adeyemo, advised Osun State Governor Oyetola and Osun State APC Chairman, Prince Adegboyega Famodun to allow free, fair and credible direct or indirect primary to avoid needless litigation.

“We frown at such move and we are openly warned that consensus primary will divide Osun State APC and affect the re-election bid of the Executive Governor of Osun, His Excellency Governor Adegboyega Oyetola if not rejected by the party.

“Consensus may install unpopular or rejected aspirants to become party candidates thereby create needless agitation, serious litigation, unexpected defection and unplanned election defeat.

“We are more concerned about the Progressives party and that’s why we are advising the Executive Governor of Osun, His Excellency, Gov. Adegboyega Oyetola and Osun State APC Chairman, Prince Adegboyega Famodun to mandate direct or indirect primary to avoid unexpected electoral defeat.”

The Chairman of the CYI Adeyemo also advised APC aspirants to prepare for primary election and see it as an avenue to display their popularity.

“If Governor Adegboyega Oyetola passes through direct primary and came out victoriously, we don’t see the reason why any aspirant will be lobbying for consensus.

“No sitting Senator, Rep or HoA members should scare the party with planned defection because non of them are biological parent of their followers, they are just a momentary beneficiary of their followers as a result of their position.

“The followers will settle down with the outcome of the APC credible primaries and follow the victorious party candidates for 2023 elections.
