Coach George Passes First  Litmus Test As Super Eagles Record Victory Over Black Stars

Coach Finidi George has recorded his first victory as the Interim Coach of the Super Eagles as the National side  recorded a 2-1 victory over rival, the Black Stars of Ghana in an International Friendly in Marrakech’s Morocco.

The Super Eagles which last International Match was the African Cup of Nations championship final against host, Côte d’Ivoire, where it lost 2-1, had fixed an International Friendly Match with its West African Neighbours, Black Stars of Ghana and the Eagles of Mali.

Coach George started the game with Goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, defenders,  Chiedozie Awaziem, Oluwasemilogo Ajayi and debutant, Benjamin Tanimu in the Three Man Defense Line Up.

Bright Osayi-Samuel, Frank Onyeka, Wilfred Ndidi and Bruno Onyemaechi in the heart of the midfield, while Kelechi Iheanacho, Cyril Dessers and Alex Iwobi led the attack.

The Super Eagles dominated the game and got the first goal from the Penalty Spot, as Cyril Dessers converted the Spot Kick to give Super Eagles the lead.

The Black Stars tried to get back into the game, but the Super Eagles remained resilient, and led into the second half, forcing their opponent to be defensive.

Jerome Opoku however got the marching order as he was red carded for a violent tackle, giving the Super Eagles the opportunity to dictate the flow of the game.

The introduction of Ademola Lookman, Moses Simon and Raphael Onyedika changed the dynamics of the game as the three-time AFCON Champions got the Second goal courtesy of Ademola Lookman.

At the dying seconds of the game, Ghana got a consolatory goal from the Penalty Spot which was converted by Abdul Fatawu Issahaku to give the Ghanaians something to cheer about.

The Super Eagles will face the Eagles of Mali in their second international friendly match scheduled for 26th March, 2024 In Marrakech, Morocco.
