A Presidential Aide says he is in full support of the gruesome murder of Deborah a student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto.
She was stoned to death, on May 12, 2022, and her body burnt, for an alleged blasphemy. She allegedly spoke in an unflattering manner about Prophet Mohammed.
She was alleged to have written in a class WhatsApp Group: “Holy Ghost Fire, nothing will happen to me. Is it by force you guys would always be sending these religious stuff in the group, the group wasn’t created for that, but rather as a notice for when there’s test, assignment, exams etc not these nonsense Religious posts”
The post allegedly did not go down well with some of her Muslim colleagues who saw it as blasphemous and murdered her.
While outrage has, mostly, followed the gruesome murder of Deborah, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, says he is in support of the murder.
In a post, Ahmad wrote: “I can’t pretend or keep silent. I support the death penalty for BLASPHEMY. That’s my belief and and I do not and will never support”
For the records, since the murder, there has been no reaction from the Federal Government or the Predidency or any Presidential Aspirant.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who earlier, in a tweet, condemned the murder, distanced himself from the condemnation saying the tweet did not come from him and was not authorised by him. This was after he came under attack by some people of the Islamic faith who threatened not to vote for him in his Presidential quest.
The Sokoto State Police Command said two students have been arrested over the murder.
The comment attributed to the Special Assistant on New Media to President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, over the gruesome murder of Deborah Yakubu, a student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education, which is trending, is not a recent comment by him. Ahmad made that statement in 2015 over another lynching of a Christian in Kano, alleged to have committed blasphemy.
