Buhari Says NURTW Has No Hand In Iyana Iba Fracas, As Normalcy Returns |The Source

It was a free for all fight.  properties worth millions of Naira were destroyed, serious injuries sustained, but no death recorded according to the Lagos State Police Command.

However, Jimoh Buhari, spokesman for the Lagos State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Musiliu Akinsanya, aka MC Oluomo, has said no NURTW official was involved in the clash between a transport union and Okada riders in the Iyana-Iba and Ojo areas of the state on Monday.

He added that no member of the Union was involved in the fracas, discarding the news making the round that the NURTW members were involved.

Buhari stressed that another transport union in the state, the Road Transport Employers’ Association Of Nigeria, was involved in the clash.

“NURTW was not involved in the clash. RTEAN and its Okada arm were the ones involved in the clash”.

The Oniba of Iba, Alhaji Suleiman Adeshina, popularly known as ‘Jafo Authority’, the RTEAN refused to comment on the matter.

There was palpable tension around the Lagos State University campus in the Ojo Local Government Area yesterday when RTEAN officials and Okada riders clashed over tariff increment.

Lagos State Police Command Spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement said normalcy had been restored to the affected areas.

According to the PPRO, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered the immediate deployment of additional police personnel in the area to maintain law and order.

Adejobi also said leaders of the affected Okada riders unit have been invited for an urgent meeting to forestall future occurrence and to Investigate what led to the Fracas.

This news medium gathered that the Military personnel attached to Ojo Cantonment were at the scene of the fracas.

Video footage made by an eyewitness showed  Military personnelwalking pass as mayhem was unleashed on packed Cars and vehicles.

It took the intervention of OP Mesa Military attached to the Lagos State Police Command to restore normally to the area.
