Mahmood Yakubu, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Chairman, has got his term renewed by President Muhammadu Buhari. With the reappointment, he is expected to be screened and cleared again by the Senate.
With this, Yakubu becomes the first INEC chairman to do a second term.
With the expiration of his tenure on November 9, President Buhari was expected to appoint a replacement, or reappoint him.
The term is for another five years.
Yakubu is a professor of Political History and International Studies. He became INEC’s chairman on October 21, 2015, after the president submitted his name to the Senate.
His first term tenure will come to an end on 9, November 2020.
