The British Royal Family is bereaved. It has lost its patriarch. And left the British Monarch devastated.
The Duke of Edinburgh, Philip, Queen Elizabeth 11’s husband, is dead.
The Monarchy and the British people had wished he would live to be a hundred years old. But he died aged 99 years.
Announcing his death, Buckingham Palace said he died early Friday morning.
“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty, The Queen, has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.”
The Duke, unarguably, was the eternal love of the Queen. They began to correspond with each other in July, 1939, when the Queen, then a Princess, was 13 years old. He first met her in 1934.
Born into the Greek and Danish Royal families, his family was exiled from Greece when he was only an infant.
The Duke had, in recent months, been in out of hospital due to old age related issues, and was recently discharged from hospital a couple of weeks ago.
A very loyal Consort of Queen Elizabeth, they had four children – Charles, Prince of Wales, Anne, Princess Royale, Andrew, Duke of York, and Edward, Earl of Wessex.
