Breaking: Nkanga, Former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Dies, Allegedly Of COVID-19

A former Military Administrator of Akwa Ibom State, Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga, is dead.

The retired Air Commodore, a native of Akwa Ibom State, reportedly,  died on Christmas eve, Thursday, 24th December, 2020.

Until his death, Nkanga was the  Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), a group which fights for the good of the Niger Delta Region. Chief Edwin Clerk is the Patron.

He was said to have died of an undisclosed illness at a hospital in Uyo. But strong speculations are that he died he died of COVID-19.

Nkanga was Military Administrator of Akwa Ibom State under the regime of Military President, Ibrahim Babangida. He was appointed in January, 1990.

Former Secretary to the Federal Government, Ufot Ekaette, was his Deputy.

A few days ago Nkanga had granted an interview to a national newspaper where he lamented the non-completion of the East-West road, and the refusal of oil companies to relocate their headquarters to the Niger Delta.

Nkanga was formerly married to an Actress, and On Air Personality, Uduak, before they went their separate ways after his tenure as Governor. They had an only daughter who died in the United States of America.

Nkanga had since remarried.

He was a great ally of Akwa Ibom Governor, Udom Emmanuel, and was a driving force behind the success of Ibom Air.

Nkanga was aged 68 years.
