The Israeli Government has evacuated its citizens from Nigeria.
They left Nigeria, Sunday, on a private chartered aircraft, through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. At least, a pet dog was, also, seen being evacuated.
Israelis outside Abuja assembled at the Murtalla Mohammed Airport, Lagos, from where they were airlifted to Abuja to join their compatriots.
Over 250 of them were on the flight which will fly them straight – non-stop – to Israel.
It is not clear, yet, what prompted the sudden evacuation of its citizens, including Embassy staff of Israeli citizenship, considering that as at when they were evacuated, Nigeria had only 97 confirmed cases, and only one death – a 67- year old who was undergoing chemotherapy, and had only arrived Nigeria from London – but an Israeli embassy source said it was to protect their citizens from COVID-19, which is ravaging the world. The source promised they would be back as soon as the Virus is subdued.
It is not known, yet, if Israel has also evacuated its citizens from other African countries, and all other burdened countries with worse situations.
