Security personnel had a difficult time controlling the crowd which thronged the Sam Mbakwe Airport, Owerri, to welcome the immediate past Governor of Imo State, the Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, to the state.
Ihedioha came back unannounced, yet, his arrival brought activities at the airport to a halt, as throngs of people struggled to catch a glimpse of him, amidst cheers, and joy, and celebrations.
Wearing his trademark green cap, he waved back enthusiastically at the crowd, which grew by the minute. He was shielded, at a point, by security personnel, to avoid being mobbed by the excited crowd who hailed him every inch of the way.
It is Ihedioha’s first trip to the state since January, 2020, when the Supreme Court removed him from office after a seven-month stay as Governor.
He aborted an earlier planned visit because it got enmeshed in politics, and created so much tension in the state. A break down of the law was feared.
The magazine gathered that aside from coming home to participate in his party’s (PDP) state congress slated for Saturday, he would, also, attend the funeral of the state pioneer Chairman of the PDP, Chief Innocent Nwoga, slated for Friday.
Ihedioha is the leader of the PDP in the state.
