For the Garuba family of Auchi, Edo State, it is double tragedy.
The Rt. Hon. Zakawanu Garuba, former Speaker Edo State House of Assembly, died Saturday after a brief illness.
His wife was in Abuja. On hearing of her husband’s sudden death, he took off with their driver to their home town, Auchi, for the funeral.
But that was not to be.
When they got to Okene, on their way to Edo, she was kidnapped, along with their driver.
The Police confirmed the incident.
The former Speaker, a Muslim, attended the Obafemi Awolowo University, where he read law. He graduated in 1989, and was called to bar in 1990.
He was the Speaker of the Assembly from 2007 to 2009.
His wife’s kidnap means that she would not be present at her funeral, since he was of the Muslim faith, and would be laid to rest same day, or early Sunday morning.
He was aged 54 years.
