It is not likely to affect the May 29, 2023, handover date, but the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has rescheduled the dates for the 2023 General elections.
It is not clear, yet, what necessitated that, coming 24 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari signed into Law, the Amended Electoral Act Bill, 2022, but INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, hinged it on that when he announced the rescheduling in Abuja on Saturday.
In the new timetable, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will now hold on February 25, 2023, instead of February 18, while the Governorship and State Assembly Elections will hold on March 11, 2023.
Recall that the INEC Chairman had warned, earlier, that the delay in signing the Bill into Law could affect the 2023 General elections.
