Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressive Congress, APC has hurried to meet President Mohammadu Buhari in Abuja.
The meeting currently holding in Aso Rock, Presidential villa may not be unconnected with the vexed issue of who succeed Buhari in 2023.
The two leaders are meeting few days after popular pastor and activist, Tunde Bakare, met with President Buhari in the villa and told him to name his successor.
The pastor of the Latter Rain Assembly, has disclosed his interest in the nation’s top job.
Meanwhile, President Buhari said he will not back anyone eyeing the presidency in 2023.
He has also warned politians not to use his name to campaign.
Tinubu’s meeting with Buhari also came few hours after Femi Adesina, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, to the president’s interview on Channels Television, where he reiterated Buhari’s decision not to support any candidate for presidency.
According to Adesina “By May 2023 God willing he would have finished his second term as president, he would not have stood for another term and he will be exiting. So, he has that at the back of his mind.”
He said further “Pastor Bakare said he should be interested in who succeeds him, yes I’m sure the president will be interested in who succeeds him but he will not manipulate the process, to pick a successor.
The president will not pick a successor. We know him, he is not somebody like that. Will he be interested in the process? Yes, he will. He will ensure that there is a free, fair and credible election; that nobody will come to use money and resources to bamboozle his way into the leadership of the country.
It will not happen. The president will ensure free, fair and credible process; but to handpick a successor? No, he will not do that.”
Adesina, however said Buhari will not handover to looters.
Buhari will not release “Nigeria over to those who will take her back or hand Nigeria over to looters once again.
One thing that is clear is that the president will do whatever is needful before the next set of general elections.
Details later…..
