The Federal Government has ordered an enhanced security framework in parts of Borno State , following the suicide bomb blast that rocked a Mosque within the Gamboru Market in Maiduguri metropolis on Wednesday December 24, 2025.
The Source reports that no fewer than five persons were confirmed dead, and over 35 others sustained varying degrees of injuries. The explosion is believed to be a suicide attack by suspected Boko Haram/ ISWAP terrorist elements.
The Borno State Police Command, in a statement late on Wednesday informed that the attack occurred at about 1800hrs at Al-Adum Juma’at Mosque , inside the crowed Market , during prayers, leaving behind 5 persons dead and 35 others injured .
According to the statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, Nahum Kenneth Daso, the incident may have been the handiwork of suicide bombers, using Improvised Explosive Devices, IED.
” Preliminary investigations further suggest that the incident may have been a suicide bombing based on the recovery of fragments of suspected suicide vest and witness statements recorded”, the police stated .
But reacting to the unfortunate development on Thursday December 25, 2025, Vice president Kashim Shettima warned that the Federal Government will not tolerate attempts to undermine the fragile peace and stability of the country.
While condemning the attack as a despicable assault on innocent citizens and the peace of the nation, the Vice president, mrwho was the immediate past Governor of Borno, however assured that the Federal Government will continue to prioritize security through the provisions of adequate human and material resources to security agencies in their quest to decisively defeat terrorism.
He further promised that the Federal Government will be deploying additional tactical teams to the areas affected by terrorist activities,and other security challenged parts of the state with a view to tracking down the perpetrators of the heinous and dastardly act.
This is as he sympathized with the families, relations and friends of the victims of the attack.
“The Federal Government will not tolerate any attempts to undermine the peace and security of our nation.
“Our security agencies are working round the clock to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are brought to justice immediately .
“We will continue to provide our security agencies with all necessary resources and support to decisively defeat terrorism in all forms .
“We sympathise with the Government of Borno state , residents and families who lost their loved ones in this attack.
“The Federal Government is confident that those responsible for this despicable act of terrorism will face the full weight of the law” Shettima noted .
According to the Vice President, since inception, the present administration has continued to prioritize the security of lives and properties of the people .
This commitment he added, will remain steadfast under God and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria .
