Bayelsa: INEC To Announce Results On Monday; Diri Takes Early Lead

The announcement of the complete results of the Bayelsa State governorship election, has been shifted to Monday.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC disclosed on Sunday that it needs more time to collate the results, as some polling units are just returning the results of the election.
According to one INEC official who spoke, today in Yenagoa, the state’s capital, “We have to give the Presiding Officers time to reconcile and put their figures together,” before the final results can be announced.
The collation would not continue from 12 pm tomorrow, the electoral umpire said.
The governorship election was held on Saturday, but the election in some polling units were shifted to Sunday because of some logistics reasons.
Meanwhile, the results made available so far by INEC from collation centres across the eight local governments in the state, indicate that the incumbent Governor Douye Diri, who is the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, is already coasting home to victory.
The results from six LGAs have already been announced by INEC.
So far, the PDP has garnered 137909 votes  while the All Progressives Congress, APC is trailing with 73503 votes.
Timipre Sylva, the immediate past minister of Petroleum Resources is the candidate of the PDP in the election.
