A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC, and one of the leading aspirants in next year’s Anambra gubernatorial contest, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has decried the worsening security situation of the state in recent times.
He regretted that the unfortunate ambush and attack on the crew of the Supersport crew on Thursday along the Ihiala-Orlu road, has once again underscored the perilous security situation in the state under the watch of Governor Charles Soludo.
The Source reports that the Supersport crew and others traveling to Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital for the AFCON qualifier between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and their Lybian counterparts were on Thursday October 10, attacked by suspected kidnappers.
Three people, Supersport Cameraman, a Police personnel, and the driver of the bus in which they were traveling lost their lives in the incident.
Security operatives were, however, able to rescue about six members of the traveling party, who were abducted by the attackers.
However, one of the abducted passengers, according to the Anambra State Police Command Spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, is still unaccounted for.
In a statement issued by his Media aide James Eze on Sunday October 13, the APC Chieftain lamented that the unfortunate incident has once again placed Anambra state on the wrong side of global news.
Sir Chukwuma noted that the attack has further deepen the people mistrust,in the abilities of the state Government to protect the lives and properties of the people .
“This attack has not only placed Anambra in an unfavourable light ,but has also revealed the urgent need for stronger security measures across our state” the APC Stalwart noted
While appreciating the courage and gallantry of the police ,the Army and other security agencies in rising to the occasion ,he extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims ,the Nigeria Football Federation NFF ,and to the Supersport .
He expressed the hope that the ugly incident will not dampen the spirit and commitment of Supersport, which he noted has been playing a prominent role in bringing joy and happiness to the teeming lovers of football and sports generally in the country.
“Our thoughts go to the Nigerian Army ,whose courageous response during the rescue efforts is deeply appreciated.
“We mourn with the families of the deceased and stand in solidarity with all who are grieving” Chukuma stated.
He, however, urged the Anambra State Government to rise to the security challenges in the state, which he insisted has severely disrupted the peace of state ,as well as its economic development .
“The people of Anambra deserve safety and security .Incidents like this should serve as a wake up call for the Government to fulfil its responsibility of protecting lives and properties” he noted.
