The Nigerian Police on Friday, raided the office of the People’s Gazette in Abuja arresting one of the online newspaper editors, John Adenekan.
The policemen were said to have demanded to see the paper’s Managing Editor Samuel Ogundipe and Adefemola Akintade, a reporter who were not around at the time.
Adenekan, an assistant managing editor, was taken away at about 12:35 p.m. by five armed police officers who broke into the paper’s office opposite NNPC Quarters in Utako, the medium reported, sources in the company said, adding that the officers declined to state the reason for their assault on the journalist.
Adenekan, the magazine learnt has now been taken to the Utako police division following the raid.
The arrest has further worsened the President Muhammadu Buhari reputation with the media, and has been receiving scathing remarks from Nigerians who said the administration is not making effort to improve it’s bad image with the vibrant Nigerian media.
The officers declined to state the reason for their assault.
