Attack On Army Base: President Tinubu Calls For Investigation

President Bola Tinubu has ordered a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the terror attack on an Army base in Sabon Gida, Damboa, Borno State, North East Nigeria, which claimed life of six Soldiers.

The dawn attack on January 4, has sparked renewed calls for vigilance and proactive measures against insurgency in the region.

On Saturday, ISWAP terrorists launched a deadly assault on the army base, killing six soldiers and causing significant damage. The incident highlights the persistent threat posed by terrorist groups in Nigeria’s Northeast region.

In a statement on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, describing their sacrifice as a cornerstone of the nation’s fight for security.

“Their sacrifice in defending our nation will forever be honoured and remembered.”

While commending the Armed Forces for their swift response, Tinubu lauded the Military’s air component for its decisive retaliatory strikes, which neutralized numerous terrorists and destroyed their assets as they attempted to escape.

“This resolute action by the Army demonstrates the capability and readiness of our military to confront and defeat threats to our nation’s security.

“Their actions testify to our resolve to eradicate terrorism and banditry, paving the way for a future where peace and security prevail for all Nigerians.’

Tinubu directed the military to escalate its efforts by taking the war to the camps of bandits and terrorists.

He particularly urged intensified operations in the Northwest, where criminal elements continue to terrorize villagers.

“Your sacrifices and dedication do not go unnoticed, and we stand firmly behind you in this ongoing fight to eliminate these threats.”

The President also appealed to Nigerians and the media to rally behind the military in its efforts to restore peace across the country.

“Together, we can support our security forces in achieving the peace and security our nation deserves.”

The statement emphasised that the government remains steadfast in its commitment to ending terrorism and ensuring the safety of all Nigerians.
