Media mogul and former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP presidential aspirant, Dele Momodu has charged the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar to enter an immediate agreement with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state over the prolonged crisis in the party.
Momodu, Ovation magazine publisher spoke as the main opposition party struggles to resolve the fallout of the PDP presidential primaries which Atiku won by defeating Wike.
Since he lost the ticket, Governor Wike has made incendiary comments against his party, with many suggesting his imminent defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
To add some effects to his ‘rebellion’ against his party, the Rivers helmsman has met with some APC stalwarts, including the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila who commissioned some projects in the oil-bearing state last week.
Wike’s action has continued to ruffle feathers in the party ahead of the make or mar presidential election, which the party said it’s poised to win.
But Momodu has now advised the party’s presidential candidate to have a one-on-one meeting with Wike, to settle the rift with winning next year’s election in mind.
The Ovation publisher who recently urged Wike to shield his sword and work with the party, said “the fear of Wike is the beginning of wisdom in PDP.”
Momodu spoke on Channels Television on Monday, said Wike will not leave the party, adding that the Rivers helmsman is only playing a mind game with the party.
He said “I believe he will not leave PDP. He is playing a mind game and he’s good at it. What shall he profit him if he joins APC?
“The situation in PDP shows what Wike is in the equation of things in Nigeria. If you have a man who is your best governor across the board, across party lines, Wike stands out as a fantastic performer.
“Today, the fear of Wike is the beginning of wisdom in PDP, there is no question about that. Wike is smart, he knows the game he’s playing, and what he wants to do is to force a deal with the party. That’s my own reading of the situation. He is a very smart politician. I’m sure eventually the party will reach an agreement with him.
“What I would advise Atiku Abubakar to do today is to sit down one-on-one without no other person present with governor Wike and agree on deliverables, If possible, sign an agreement.
“Governor Wike believes that the party should have respected the zoning principle, number two, he believes that zoning would have favored a southern candidate. Three, he believed that of all the southern aspirants, he is the one that has the capacity to deliver victory to the party. Then number four, I believe he thinks he should have been the one to make that presidential candidate.”
