The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU says it will resist seriously some universities in the country victimising its members.
Joshua Mbave, Chairman of ASUU, Taraba State University, TSU, chapter, made this known on Friday, saying the union has identified six universities where the freedom of its members are being threatened by the authorities in those institutions.
During the press conference he addressed in Jalingo, Taraba state capital Mbave called on the state and federal government owning those universities to call them to order, failure which the union will be forced to take action.
He also called on the Governing Council of such universities to reinstate some of its members who have been wrongly sacked,, adding that the fundamental rights of the lecturers affected must be made sacrosanct, warning the universities to desist from oppressing and suppressing staff members.
According to Mbave, “Our members are being subjected to harassment, unjust sanctions, and repressive measures by university managements in various institutions.
“Among the universities where our members are being victimised are Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo; Kogi State University (KSU), Anyigba; Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Abakaliki; Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma; Chukwuemeka Odumegwu University (COOU), Igbariam; and Federal University of Technology (FUTO), Owerri.”
