An All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain in Adamawa State, Mr. Abdulrahman Haske, has called on youths in Lamurde Local Government Area to shun violence and embrace their role as agents of peace and sustainable development.
Haske made the call while distributing relief materials to victims affected by recent incidents of unrest in parts of the local government area. He stressed that lasting peace remains a collective responsibility and a critical requirement for social and economic progress.
According to him, youths possess the energy, creativity and numbers to drive positive change in their communities, but warned that these same attributes could be misused when young people allow themselves to be manipulated by selfish interests seeking to foment crisis for personal gain.
“Young people must understand that violence only sets communities backward. Those who instigate unrest often disappear when the consequences arrive, leaving the youth and the wider community to suffer the losses,” Haske cautioned.
He emphasized that dialogue, tolerance and mutual understanding remain the most effective tools for resolving disputes, noting that no community can attract meaningful development in an atmosphere of tension and insecurity.
Haske explained that the distribution of relief materials was not merely humanitarian support, but also a gesture of solidarity and reassurance to affected residents that they were not alone in difficult times.
He further urged parents, traditional rulers and community leaders to intensify efforts at mentoring young people, instilling in them values such as patience, respect for others and peaceful engagement.
Addressing residents directly, Haske appealed for calm and unity across Lamurde, saying peace would enable the area to harness its full potential.
“To the people of Lamurde, let us remain peaceful and united. Only in an atmosphere of harmony can we build a future of opportunity, development and shared prosperity for our children,” he said.
Residents at the event commended the intervention and called on stakeholders to sustain peacebuilding efforts across the local government area.
