For saying President Bola Tinubu is a criminal, the All Progressive Congress, APC, Rivers State Chapter on Wednesday September 24, 2025, accused Omoyele Sowore, Lawyer, human rights activist, politician and Publisher of SaharaReporters, an online publication, of committing a treasonable offence.
The Source reports that the Presidency and Department of State Service DSS have in the last few weeks raised serious concerns about Sowore, calling the President a “criminal” in one of his posts.
After failing to persuade Sowore to pull down the post from his official site, the DSS formally resorted to a legal challenge against him.
But in a statement issued on Wednesday ,the Rivers State APC Chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, called for tougher measures against the SaharaReporters Publisher.
Chief Okocha while accusing Sowore of a deliberate propagation of falsehood with the intent to incite the people, also insisted that the actions of the human rights activist are akin to treasonable felony.
This is as the party urged Nigerians to resist attempts by the likes of Sowore to undermine public confidence in the Government of Nigeria.
“Spreading false news with clear intention to overreach or defame another’s character or integrity is unacceptable.
“Attempting to incite Nigerians against the Government with the crudity of style is treasonable felony.
“Any action capable of undermining public trust and potent enough to threaten Nigeria’s democracy, stemming from malice is unacceptable.
“In every democracy, criticism is welcome, but what Nigerians must reject are deliberate lies, propaganda, and attempts to defame under the guise of activism.
“Sowore has built his entire career on lies. His SaharaReporters platform is notorious for publishing fabricated stories and half-truths often used as tools for blackmail and extortions”, Okocha stated.
The Source further reports that apart from referring to President Tinubu as a “criminal” Sowore last week accused the Federal Capital Territory FCT Minister Nyesom Wike of illegally acquiring some choice properties in Florida, the United States of America USA ,with public funds.
But according to the Rivers state APC Chairman ,the allegations against Wike are in tandem with Sowore’s antecedents of spewing false and unsubstantiated claims with the intent to blackmail.
Okocha, therefore, urged the Federal Government to, as a matter of necessity, take steps to rein in Sowore.
“These baseless allegations are nothing more than the bitter rantings of a man rejected by Nigerians at the poll and drowning in political irrelevance.
“Which sane citizen of a country can refer to the highest office holder as a Criminal?, the APC Chairman queried
