The newly appointed Anambra state Commissioner for Information Dr Law Mefor, has pledged to collaborate with working journalists to properly project the giant strides of the Governor Charles Soludo administration in the State.
This is even as he insisted that the State, in all ramifications, is being under- reported.
The Source reports that Dr Mefor on Tuesday, September 17 ,replaced Sir Paul Nwosu ,who was relieved of his position same day .
The erstwhile Commissioner’s removal was well received and celebrated by journalists across the State.
The Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Anambra State Chapter, in June, 2024, threatened to boycott all Government- related activities citing the inability of the former Commissioner and the Governor’s Media team to carry them along.
Instructively, the NUJ had complained that since coming on board in 2022, the sacked Commissioner for Information never interfaced with any segments of the NUJ in the State.
Dr Mefor who spoke on Thursday September 19, barely 48 hours after his appointment, at an interactive session with the members of the state NUJ Correspondents Chapel at his office, appealed for the understanding, support and cooperation of Journalists to ensure a vibrant, robust ,fair and comprehensive covering of the State.
He lamented that despite its achievements ,the Governor Soludo- administration has not been adequately projected to the public.
“The Media is my primary constituency. If you want to go fast, go alone .If you want to go far, go with a group.
“I desire to work with you, so please, join me on this journey. I will be the bridge between you and the Government.
“Mr Governor has a solid blueprint, for Anambra’s growth, but I believe that his achievements have not been fully presented. These achievements need more publicity and feedback.
“We must publicize Mr Governor’s efforts to highlight the State’s potentials, including embarking on project tours, ” Dr Mefor noted .
While congratulating the new Commissioner on his appointment, the Vice chairman of the NUJ Anambra State Correspondents Chapel, Nkeiru Nwagbo assured of the support and cooperation of the Union in his quest to change the narrative.
