In a bid to take the battle to hoodlums den, the Anambra State Police authorities on Saturday, September 21, 2024, announced the recovery of three unexploded improvised explosive devices, two abandoned vehicles and other dangerous weapons at the camp of suspect gunmen in Ihiala Local Council of the State .
The Police raid on the suspected criminals’ hideout , is coming on the heels of a spate of vicious attacks on Government properties and Police Facilities in Anambra State of recent.
Earlier in August, some gunmen stormed the headquarters of Ogbaru Local Government, and unleashed mayhem which left in its trail massive destruction of properties, including a section of the Council complex .
The gunmen numbering over 15, according to reports, emerged from nearby bushes before descending on the Council building .
A few days after, and in almost a similar faction, gunmen attacked and killed some security personnel attached to the Oba Police formation .
They also set ablaze parts of the Police facility, in the attack that witnessed the destruction of other properties.
Only last Monday, September,16, the Anambra Police Command announced the recovery of about five unexploded improvised devices from its Umunze facility following yet another audacious attack by gunmen.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of the morning, also, led to the death of two Police Operatives and the torching of some parts the police station.
In a statement, the Anambra State Police Command’s Spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, SP blamed the tragic attack on suspected members of the Simon Ekpa-led faction of the Indigenous peoples of Biafra, IPOB, Autopilots.
He had also fingered the group in all the other previous attacks, noting that their targets are Government and public properties.
Ikenga had, also, after the Umunze attack ,informed that a combined team of security operatives have been launched to confront the hoodlums head on .
“The Joint Security Forces comprising the police, Army ,Navy, Civil Defence and other Security Agencies, recovered five unexploded improvised explosive devices and are pursuing members of the arsonist and armed secessionist groups who attacked the Umunze Police Station in the early hours of September 16,2024”, Ikenga noted .
According to the Police Spokesman, the Joint Security Forces ,in a planned and coordinated operation on Friday ,working with some actionable intelligence raided the camp of the criminals located in Lilu Mbosi and Isseke areas, all in Ihiala Local Council.
He noted that in keeping with the directives of the State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, the Joint Security Forces will sustain the pressure on the criminals.
According to Ikenga, the primary aim of the sustained onslaught on the criminal camps is for the Security to dominate and deny the hoodlums any operational space.
